This Week In Worship – 4/12

Dear Grace Family,

It is good to be back home in Olathe. You may not have noticed, but I have been gone for a week hanging out with our Tochi Medical Mission Team. It was my first trip to Tochi and for the most part it was wonderful. We had a few hiccups, but that is to be expected. Mission trips never go exactly as planned, but they always make a difference in the lives of the people we meet and the people who serve. You will hear more about the trip a week from Sunday in worship. For now, it is just good to be sleeping in my own bed again.

I am also excited to be back in worship with you this Sunday. I have been accused of being a John Wesley nerd and I take that as a compliment. I think Pastor Wes is also a fellow Wesley nerd (his parents gave him an appropriate name for that title). Last week he started our new sermon series, “John Wesley for Today,” by preaching on the “Almost Christian.” Our goal is to take six of John Wesley’s sermons and reinterpret them for the 21st Century. I believe that John Wesley has wonderful things to say to the church, but his language and style need to be updated to speak to us today. Pastor Wes and I are doing our best to share our Wesleyan theology as we understand it. This Sunday I will be reworking John Wesley’s sermon “The New Birth” which he published in 1760. I invite you to come and hear his words with new ears.

See you in worship!

Barry
