This Week in Worship – 3/22

Dear Grace Family,

This Sunday begins our most important liturgical week of the year as we remember the events that are central to our faith. I am excited to share Holy Week with you for the first time. We begin with Palm Sunday at all three of our morning worship services. The children will have a Palm parade at 9:00 am and in Common Grace at 10:15 am. On Thursday we will remember Christ’s last supper with his disciples with communion available in Grace Gathering from Noon to 1:00 PM. You can come to the church at any time over the lunch hour, read a devotion, spend time in prayer and receive communion from your pastors.  On Friday, the Celebration Choir will lead us in a Tenebrae service at 7:00 PM. Tenebrae is a powerful service of darkness that remembers the crucifixion through music and liturgy.

One of my favorite books by Tony Campolo is called “It’s Friday, But Sunday is Coming!” That is the expectation I have every year after the Good Friday service. We leave in darkness, but the darkness does not get the last word. The last word comes on Sunday morning, and it is a powerful three-word phrase, “Christ is Risen!” We will shout the word at three different worship opportunities on Easter Sunday, 9:00, 10:15 and 11:00 am. I can already feel the anticipation rising up within me. There is no better place to be this week than at Grace United Methodist Church!

See you in worship!
Barry
