This Week in Worship – 5/31 edition

Dear Grace Family,

Next Thursday, your pastors and Lay Delegates will head to Kearney, Nebraska for the Great Plains Annual Conference. There is not a lot of controversial business to discuss, but there is a proposal to reduce the number of districts from 17 to 10. The impact on us will be minimal. We have already reduced the number of District Superintendents to 10 and many oversee two districts in the current structure. The biggest impact for Grace is that we will now be in the Northeast Kansas District instead of the Kansas City District.

Here are some other things happening at Grace.

As a result of changes made at General Conference, United Methodist Churches may now open their facilities for same-gender weddings and United Methodist Clergy are able to officiate. The Administrative Board met last week and unanimously approved allowing same-gender weddings in our church. We have not had any requests, but our policy has been updated.

Thank you to everyone who filled out a worship survey. We were able to gather some good information for the future. No changes to the Sunday morning schedule have been made yet, but we are bringing back 8 AM outdoor worship for seven weeks this summer beginning on June 16. The thirty-to-forty-minute service will be held in our outdoor chapel and will focus on some of the greatest hymns ever written. Bring your lawn chair as we gather in God’s creation.

This Sunday we will continue our worship series on “The Gospel According to Dr. Seuss” when we look at his story called The Sneetches. It is not as famous as The Cat in the Hat or Green Eggs and Ham, but it has an important message for the church. Whether you are a Star Belly Sneetch or a Plain Belly Sneetch, you are welcome at Grace.

See you in worship!
