This Week in 8/18 Worship
Dear Grace Family,
A few years ago, a good friend of mine was appointed to be the pastor at the church of my childhood. He asked me what he should know about the church. I realized that it had been over thirty years since it had been my church and that a lot had changed. Many of the same people were still there, but they were all thirty plus years older. I did offer to meet him at the church and tell what I remembered.
Walking through the church with my friend was a fascinating experience. Even though many parts of the building had changed, everything seemed so familiar. Every room we walked into elicited a story. I am sure my friend got tired of listening to me, but I could not stop talking. My head was filled with memories that I had not thought about for years. The best way I can describe the experience is to say that I had come home.
This fall we decided to create an event at Grace we are calling Homecoming Sunday! Like my experience returning to the church of my childhood, we know that things are always changing in a church, but there are also things that always feel familiar. The church is a place that should be filled with stories that have shaped our lives. Most of all, we want Grace to be a place that you call home. Whether you are in worship every Sunday or you haven’t been to church in years, you are invited to our Homecoming Sunday on September 8. We will have one worship service in the Celebration Center at 10:30 AM followed by an All-Church cookout and activities for people of all ages. It is a great day to come home to Grace!
See you in worship!
