This week in 7/7 worship

Dear Grace Family,

Last night I was sitting in Mitch and Jan’s driveway watching the fireworks with my family and close friends and something remarkable occurred to me. I was sitting in the same exact spot last year on the Fourth of July. I know that is not an earth-shattering revelation to most people, but it made me realize that I have now been in Olathe for an entire year serving as your pastor. It was the first time that I was doing something for the second time in Olathe. At that moment I found myself incredibly grateful that I was appointed as a pastor at Grace United Methodist Church.

Hopefully you remember that one of the first things we did when Mitch and I were appointed was a series of In-Home Meetings. We asked three questions about what Grace does well, what challenges we face and what miracles we would like to see. From those meetings, we established some goals. They included a redesign of our worship spaces with new visuals, screens and live streaming equipment and the creation of an Inreach/Outreach team to reach out to our neighbors and create new ministries for young families. Both of these goals have been addressed in our first year.

Our third goal was to study our Sunday morning schedule and propose a new schedule that would lead to growth. A survey was sent out many weeks ago and we have continued to have conversations in smaller groups. One outcome was bringing back the 8:00 am outdoor worship for the summer. It has averaged 40 participants each week and will continue through the end of July. The second change we are exploring is to move the 11:00 am traditional worship to 10:30 am. If you have thoughts or questions about the time change, I would love to hear from you. Send me an email or catch me on a Sunday morning. We will be discussing this change at our next Administrative Board meeting.

I am so grateful to begin my second year of ministry with you. Thank you for welcoming me into the Grace community. It has been a joy to be your pastor.

See you in worship!
Barry
