This Sunday in 6/1 Worship

Dear Grace Family,

This Sunday we begin our summer worship schedule which includes 8:00 AM outdoor worship. The weather forecast looks beautiful, the lawn has been treated for bugs, and I anticipate a great spirit for worship on Sunday. Each week I have invited a pastor connected to our congregation to tell us their story of ministry. We have an outstanding lineup of pastors beginning with Rev. Nick Warner. I met Nick for the first time when I was in high school. He served Trinity UMC in Salina, Kansas where many of my church camp friends attended. Twenty years later I would be appointed to the same church in Salina. Nick left Trinity UMC Salina to serve Trinity UMC in Hutchinson, Kansas. Trinity Hutchinson was my church until I left for college. Nick was my parent’s pastor for 18 years until he retired. Currently Nick and his wife Mary Lee worship with us online each week. I consistently receive messages of support from Nick most Sundays after worship. I am grateful that he is kicking off our outdoor summer worship series.

At 9:00 AM traditional worship, we will continue our series on the “Seven Next Words of Jesus” by looking at the last chapter of John’s Gospel. John ends his gospel by telling one of my favorite stories about the Disciples and gives instructions to Peter to “Feed My Sheep!” At Common Grace, Mitch has been interviewing five people between the ages of 13 and 30 and asking how they live out their faith. This week he will preach on what we know about Jesus in those years between 13 and 30. Spoiler alert, we know nothing, but there are some great theories. It is going to be a great morning to worship at Grace. If you are really ambitious, you could go to all three worship experiences and get something different each time. Let me know if you do!

See you in worship!

Barry
