This Sunday in 5/4 Worship

Dear Grace Family,

I want to thank everyone who checked in with me during my recent mission trip to Tochimizolco to make sure I still had my passport. Not a day went by during the trip that someone did not ask me in person or by text if I still knew where my passport was located. I am grateful to serve such a caring community. It is also good to be back home in Olathe.

This Sunday in worship we will confirm five youth as new members in the life of the church. I love confirmation Sunday. I participated in confirmation as a youth, taught confirmation as a Youth Director, and confirmed hundreds of youth as a pastor including both of my own children. It is always a meaningful event when we lay hands on our youth and speak the words, “The Holy Spirit work within you that having been born of water and the spirit you may be a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ.” In their first action as new members of Grace, our confirmands will serve communion with their confirmation mentors. I hope you will join me in celebrating our youth this Sunday.

I have another last-minute announcement but it just came together yesterday. The Y.E.S. (Young Energetic Seniors) group meet on the first Friday of each month. Today at 10:00 am they will be joined by former Grace UMC member Kathy Musgrave and her husband Bill. Together they founded Tusonge Children’s Ministries in Uganda. For ten years they have helped nearly 70 children from the slums and villages of Uganda receive a quality education and hope for brighter future. You are invited to come hear their inspiring story in the chapel at 10:00 am this morning.

See you in worship!

Barry
