This Sunday in 4/27 Worship
Dear Grace Family,
This week I am with our medical mission team in Mexico. (updates & photos here!) I am so grateful to be part of a church that has a passion for mission. I went on my first church mission trip in 1990 and have been participating on work teams ever since. I find that it refreshes my soul and renews my spirit to be part of a team. This trip would not happen every year without the support of the Grace community. We will be reporting back to the church in a few weeks.
This Sunday is both a beginning and an ending. We are starting a new sermon series called “The Seven Next Words of Christ.” You have heard of the Seven Last Words. They are the seven statements recorded in the gospels that Jesus said while he was on the cross. The gospels also record seven things Jesus said after the resurrection. Pastor Wes will get our sermon series started with the phrase “Who are you looking for?” found in the Gospel of John. I am looking forward to this new sermon series, but this is also Pastor Wes’s last Sunday in worship at Grace. A few weeks ago, we celebrated his ministry with a reception. On May 1, Wes will begin his appointment as the Pastor of Heritage UMC in Overland Park. It is a great opportunity for Wes, but we are sorry to see him finish his time at Grace.
I am sorry that I will miss Wes’s last Sunday. His early start date at Heritage made it impossible for me to be present. I hope you will come to worship on Sunday to give him a great send off. If you get a chance, give him a big hug. You know how much he loves hugs. May God bless you Wes as you begin this new stage of your journey.
Grace and Peace!
Barry
