This Sunday in 1/5 Worship

Dear Grace Family,

The weather forecast does not look good for this weekend. My weather App says 100% chance of snow on Saturday night with 8-12 inches of accumulation. Our policy at Grace for weather has two parts. The first is that we try not to cancel worship, and your pastors will do everything we can to make it to church. If we are able to make it to the church, we will have worship in person with whoever joins us. The second part is that we want you to be safe and make the best decision for you and your family. If you choose to stay home, our hope is that you will be able to join us online. If we decide to cancel worship, we will get the information to the local television stations and send out a mass email by 8:00 am on Sunday morning.

This Sunday we are starting a brand-new sermon series on “Gandhi’s Seven Deadly Social Sins.” Gandhi gets credit for the list, but actually they are not original to him. In 1925, Fredrick Lewis Donaldson, a priest in the Church of England, preached a sermon at Westminster Abby where he proposed the list. A newspaper clipping about the sermon reached Gandhi and a few months later he published the list in his newspaper called Young India. What Gandhi did say is that these seven things have the ability to destroy us.

Gandhi was assassinated in January 1948. Seventy-Seven years later his commitment to non-violence and social justice are still relevant today. I invite you to join us for worship in-person or online as we strive to be the change we want to see in the world.

See you in worship!

Barry
