The 2019 GUMY Mission Trip season has begun! Our group of 6th grade students left Monday evening for their first mission trip experience! During this trip, we will be working Downtown at City Union Mission on Tuesday and Wednesday, and we are lodging at North Cross UMC.
This first mission trip for our students is always such a great time! They get to see what these trips are all about, and experience some of the things that make a GUMY mission trip a unique experience. GUMY mission trips are unique for many reasons, including; we are known for exceeding the expectations of our host organization in terms of quantity and quality of work completed, our adult leaders are not chaperones but are thoroughly invested in engaging with students in every aspect of the trip, and we focus on building community through relationships, both with the people we will meet, and with the people in our team.
Mission trips are also unique because no matter how many others we go on, there will never be another one that is just us. Even if it is just us, it can never again be the us that is here now. So, we celebrate the uniqueness of every mission trip team, learning about ourselves and encouraging one another all along!
So far this evening, we have unloaded an unpacked all of our stuff, laughed and played games, sang some GUMY-favorite worship songs, invested time in our own personal relationship with God, read and discussed Scripture, and learned what kind of animal each of us would be if we had the choice. We definitely know one another better after one evening!
Tomorrow we will be up early and put in a full days work. Thank you, Grace UMC, for allowing us the opportunity to do so.
Oh, and by the way, the animal I chose to be tonight was a falcon.
